We’re inspired by Nidhi Shah, the Atlanta Chapter Leader and Founder of the Georgia Tech Chapter. Nidhi started volunteering weekly at Children’s Hospital of Atlanta, facilitating arts and crafts activities with patients through our Here to Play program. As a senior at Georgia Tech, Nidhi reflects on how her involvement with Project Sunshine was a key motivator in her decision to apply to medical school and pursue a career in medicine.

As a Project Sunshine volunteer, Nidhi gained firsthand experience in a hospital setting and was granted an honest look at what it’s like to take care of hospitalized children.

“While I was considering applying to medical school, one major point of hesitation was my ability to deal with seeing so many patients in pain. By working with Project Sunshine, I was able to see that there can be light in difficult places like the sterile environment of hospitals.”

Nidhi’s volunteer experience taught her how to be adaptable and a reliable communicator, skills she’ll take with her in all her future pursuits.

Nidhi’s story is a testament to the profound impact volunteering can have on both volunteers and those they serve. We’re so thankful for our passionate volunteers like her, who bring the healing power of play to children.

Step into the New Year by volunteering with Project Sunshine to spread joy, compassion, and play to children in medical need. Whether you're a student, professional, or just eager to make a difference, explore our diverse opportunities for giving back and make 2024 an unforgettable year of compassion, connection, and countless smiles.
