This Friday, June 20th—on the longest day of the year—you’re invited to help bring joy, connection, and healing to children facing medical challenges.
We’re launching the Longest Day of Play, a social media-led fundraising campaign inspired by the summer solstice’s extended daylight. The campaign highlights the essential role of play in a child’s healing journey, and the funds raised on the day will help us reach even more pediatric patients and their families.
Join the cause by donating $15 for the 15 hours of sunlight on the solstice. Every gift helps deliver play-based programs to children in hospitals across the country and around the world.
Throughout the day, you’ll see Project Sunshine teaming up with volunteers, partners, and creators to amplify the message across social platforms. Look out for creators like Peter Mutabazi (@fosterdadflipper), Stephanie Niemis (@healthyholme), Emily Schenck (@whimsical_emily) —and feel free to share their content or create your own!
Longtime supporters Kendra Scott will also return this summer with in-store fundraising events in select cities. Tonies is organizing a special Instagram giveaway, and 4 Noses Brewing Company in Colorado will support through donation round-ups at their breweries throughout the Summer.
Why Play Matters
At Project Sunshine, we believe that play is powerful—especially for children navigating medical care. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, play is one of the most effective ways to reduce stress and promote healing in children. It helps them express themselves, connect with others, and find moments of normalcy and joy.
Thanks to over 18,000 dedicated volunteers, our evidence-based play programs reach more than 250,000 children every year—in the U.S. and internationally. From activity kits and arts & crafts to interactive games, each program is tailored to meet the unique needs of patients and families.
We currently partner with more than 500 hospitals and organizations across 48 states and three international sites: Canada, Israel, and Kenya.
