Celebrating Leadership: A Transition at Project Sunshine

Project Sunshine Community,

It is with a grateful heart that I share that after seven years of leadership, Whitney Namm Pollack will transition from her role as Project Sunshine’s Chief Executive Officer on May 30, 2025. Her tenure has been marked by tremendous growth and impact and she has built a truly extraordinary legacy.

By any measure, Project Sunshine is thriving. We now serve more than 250,000 children and families each year, a more than 70% increase from 2018. We also now partner with more than 500 hospitals and health systems, a more than 50% increase over the past seven years. This incredible reach means that more children and families than ever before have access to the healing power of play. As Project Sunshine board member and retired Chair of Pediatrics at Weill Cornell, Gerald Loughlin, M.D, shared with me recently, “the therapeutic value of Project Sunshine’s programs is undeniable and truly inspiring. I’m grateful for the team’s hard work to ensure these healing opportunities are available to more and more hospitals, patients, and families.”

Through Whitney’s leadership, we have also increased the sophistication and effectiveness of our play programs, improved support and training for our 18,000+ volunteers, and cultivated strong philanthropic relationships. Most importantly, we benefit from the tireless efforts of our highly talented and committed staff. Collectively these strengths ensure that we are well-positioned to deliver on our mission - now and into the future. I’m personally thankful to Whitney for the vision, drive, and determination that has helped our organization thrive.

These strengths also make this a natural moment for transition. Creating a thoughtful and well-timed succession plan is important to Whitney and the Board of Directors. The Board has formed a search committee and engaged the firm DRG to partner with us as executive search consultants.

I look forward to sharing more about our transition activity in the coming months and to celebrating Whitney’s inspiring leadership and impactful legacy. Until then, thank you for being part of Project Sunshine and your help to deliver the healing power of play.

Sincerely,
