Meet Mohan, a tenacious Project Sunshine volunteer in Beijing, China. Mohan began volunteering after learning about Project Sunshine from a family friend, and soon founded a Project Sunshine Kids for Kids chapter at her high school, Beijing 101 Middle School, when she was only 15.
Today, Mohan’s Project Sunshine chapter has grown to over 50 active members and has provided customized Sending Sunshine care packages for over 250 children and families affected by medical challenges in partner hospitals in Beijing. Volunteer-designed packages such as Creative Arts and Craft Kits have made the stressful hospital experience just a little bit brighter for pediatric patients and families.
When asked about her experience with Project Sunshine, Mohan explains, “As Chinese students, we have limited opportunities to engage in volunteering and service. We have great passion to explore new ways of give back to our community and Project Sunshine gave us this great opportunity to embrace our passions and try new things. We meet new friends from different classes; we explore different events that we’ve never experienced before; we challenge ourselves to reach out to different people. All these things challenge us to step out of our comfort zone. We love Project Sunshine for the wonderful experiences and memories.”
