NEW YORK – Project Sunshine is pleased to announce that Matthew Skurbe, Treasurer and Managing Director in Finance for Blackstone, has joined its Board of Directors.
Matt leads Blackstone’s Treasury related initiatives globally. Before joining Blackstone in 2009, he was the CFO for Merrill Lynch Bank & Trust, where he also spent seven years supporting Merrill Lynch’s Treasury function. He has also previously held roles with Amerada Hess and Arthur Andersen LLP. He received a BS in Accounting from Rutgers University, achieved the Certified Public Accountant certification, and is a Certified Treasury Professional. He serves as a Board Member for the Blackstone Charitable Foundation and the Association for Financial Professionals.
Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, Christine, and their three children. Matt and Chrissy have supported various pediatric health initiatives in the past, but Matt recently decided to deepen his involvement by joining Project Sunshine’s Board. As Matt describes, “My youngest child was recently hospitalized for several days with pneumonia. While I was blessed to have an employer like Blackstone that allowed me to focus on my family and ensure that my son always had a parent at his bedside, I noticed that many other children in the hospital did not have a similar support network. Project Sunshine helps to fill that gap for these children and their families, which is crucial support to assist in their recovery. I am honored for the opportunity to be part of Project Sunshine and the wonderful work they do every day to bring joy and hope to children and families at their most vulnerable time.”
“We are delighted that Matt has joined Project Sunshine’s Board of Directors,” says Joseph Weilgus, Project Sunshine Founder and Board Chairman. “Blackstone is a valued partner of the organization, with employees volunteering extensively with Project Sunshine for over five years. Matt’s financial expertise and systems management experience will be instrumental to Project Sunshine’s exciting evolution.”
