Volunteer Spotlight: Project Sunshine Chapters at Incarnation Children´s Center, New York
For more than 7 year´s, Project Sunshine volunteers have been serving children and teens living with HIV/AIDS at
the Incarnation Childrens Center (ICC) in New York. The volunteers have become like friends and family for these
children whose care needs are too complex to live at home. The Project Sunshine ICC Arts and Crafts chapter is one
of the longest existing Project Sunshine chapters. The volunteers bring innovative arts and crafts activities to the
teens at the center every month. From Mardi Gras masks to glow-in-the-dark caps, the volunteers share their passion and creativity
and are rewarded by the trust and love of the children and teens. The second chapter at ICC is a wildly popular Sunshine Chefs chapter.
The volunteers bring delicious snack recipes that include nutritional fun facts. Ingredients like quinoa and chia seeds are introduced
to the children for the first time; and by actively involving the children in the cooking process, the volunteers successfully engage and
connect with the children and teens. This monthly event has become a highly anticipated routine at ICC.
