Volunteer Spotlight: UnitedHealthcare and FC Dallas

Project Sunshine United Healthcare and FC Dallas

In September, Project Sunshine volunteers from UnitedHealthcare of Texas partnered with FC Dallas soccer players to bring sunshine and joy to the children and families of Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. In a special Party Time celebration, children were greeted with balloons, face paint, feather boas and enthusiastic smiles when they entered the hospital walls. Volunteers provided an opportunity for many children and their family members to take their mind off their hospital stay and create fond memories together.

One young patient, an avid soccer fan, arrived at the hospital for medical tests and was thrilled to be able to spend the day with the FC Dallas soccer players, playing games and creating special art projects, instead of thinking about his treatment or tests. What better way to be welcomed to the hospital than by his soccer heroes!

"Stories like these remind us how, with love and compassion, where there was rain and then sunshine, a rainbow appears," said Sumi Smith, a UnitedHealthcare employee and Project Sunshine volunteer.

Thanks to this wonderful group of Project Sunshine UnitedHealthcare volunteers, after this day of festivities, sunshine and rainbows abounded.
