Volunteer Spotlight: UnitedHealth Group

UnitedHealth Group

In April, UnitedHealth Group leaders participating in the company´s New York City General Managers Program teamed up with Project Sunshine to host a festive Spring Carnival for pediatric patients at East Harlem Asthma Center for Excellence.

Volunteers created an atmosphere of fun, play and creativity for over 150 children struggling with complications of pediatric asthma and their families. The carnival was facilitated by engaging and energetic volunteers who led a variety of creative arts and crafts activities, interactive carnival games and face painting sessions.

Volunteers and children also worked together to make fruit salads as part of Sunshine Chefs, Project Sunshines nutritional cooking program which teaches medically fragile children and their families that making healthy food choices can be fun and delicious.

Young patients, siblings, parents and UnitedHealth Group volunteers capped off the event on the dance floor, where they were joined by special guests Health. E. Hound and Nana Meriwether, Miss USA 2012.

Thanks to the passion and dedication of UnitedHealth Group volunteers, Project Sunshine patients and families were able to have a day of fun and celebration they will never forget!
