Volunteer Spotlight: Vanessa Klaric

Project Sunshine Volunteer - Mercy Wanjiru

While growing up in Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador, volunteering was always a part of Vanessa Klaric´s life. As a high school honor student, she spent her free time visiting orphanages and interacting with children. After receiving her degree in molecular and human biology from the University of Toronto, Vanessa was offered a prestigious position with one of Project Sunshine Canada´s sponsors, the Medcan Clinic. In November, Vanessa attended Project Sunshine Canada´s Fifth Annual Gala with Medcan, and after learning more about the organization was motivated to join as a volunteer.

When asked why she wanted to give her time to Project Sunshine, Vanessa says she appreciates that Project Sunshine´s activities provide children with a range of options. Vanessa selflessly gives her time to Project Sunshine every Thursday, and works overtime hours on evenings and weekends to make up the hours at Medcan.

"These kids have so much courage; they teach you so much," she says. "I look forward to coming here [Sick Kids] all week. This is my favourite part of my week, and what gives me the energy to do everything else."
