Volunteer Spotlight: Project Sunshine China´s New Year Celebrations

December is a time for festivities and celebrations for Project Sunshine – this is especially true for our friends at Project Sunshine China. Recently, Qirui Rehabilitation Center in Beijing, China was visited by Project Sunshine volunteers who hosted a Party Time for the teens living with cerebral palsy. The volunteers transformed the space with festival–themed decorations, delicious food, exciting games and creative karaoke performances (from both the volunteers and the teens)! At Xiehe Hospital, which is one of the most famous medical facilities in China, the celebration converted the usually antiseptic, white hospital walls in the pediatric inpatient unit to a colorful play land. Volunteers invited children and families for novelty games and dance performances, which attracted the attention from not only the families but even medical staff from the entire unit! In Peking University Women and Children´s Hospital, the volunteers surprised children and parents who were in the outpatient waiting room with a joyous and cheerful holiday party. Children and families enjoyed holiday crafts, delicious snacks and relaxing games, which turned what is usually a miserable and anxious long wait before seeing a doctor into an exciting and fun part of the holiday season!
