Project Sunshine's Fifth Annual Gala

Project Sunshine’s Fifth Annual Gala was a huge success in support, entertainment, and attendance.  The event honored Rick Cummings, President of the Radio Division of Emmis Communications and the newest member of Project Sunshine’s Board of Directors.

The evening raised $756,843 with more donations still coming in. The night featured a performance by Ingrid Michaelson, a new talent who sang hits off her debut album Boys and Girls, and Funkmaster Flex, who brought everyone to the dance floor to end the evening with a true “Sunshine Vibe.”  Celebrity guests included Miss Universe Riyo Mori, Miss USA Crystle Stewart, Miss Teen USA Hilary Cruz, Designer Liz Lange, Cooper Pillot from The Naked Brother’s Band, and Rachel Covey from Enchanted, among others.

The Emmis Communications team proved to be a valuable resource, coming together to help with the gala and volunteering their time at hospitals in New York and around the country.

The gala was the culmination of Project Sunshine Week, proclaimed by Mayor Bloomberg in New York City.  It is a week in which local and national businesses raise funds and awareness for Project Sunshine. Miss USA Crystal Stewart and Cooper Pillot attended the Empire State Building Lighting Ceremony, as it glowed yellow in honor of Project Sunshine. Ingrid Michaelson performed for children at Mt. Sinai Hospital and Origins Natural Resources, Stuart Weitzman, Helen Ficalora and Frette all participated in making the week truly special.
