Heart of Gold Annual Benefit Celebration

On April 28, 2015, over 500 friends and supporters gathered at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan for Project Sunshines 12th Annual Benefit Celebration. The event was a wonderful success and raised over $900,000 to benefit Project Sunshines programs for children and families facing medical challenges.

Damaris Lewis, Sports Illustrated model, Muse and touring dancer of famed musician Prince, style correspondent for Turner Sports, and ardent volunteer was recognized for her Heart of Gold and received the Project Sunshine Ambassador Award. Damaris is a dedicated Project Sunshine volunteer and mentor to 14-year-old Nakayla Prescod, who has been in and out of the hospital her whole life with a chronic illness. The two have a very special bond, and in a poignant moment, Nakayla presented Damaris her award at the event.

C. Hugh Hildesley, Executive Vice President of Sothebys, led a record-breaking live auction that featured appearances on stage by Miss USA Nia Sanchez and celebrity chef and winner of Chopped, Palak Patel. WNBCs Cat Greenleaf and David Ushery were emcees for the event, entertaining the guests and introducing Grammy Award-Winning artist Estelle, who gave a special featured musical performance, which roused the guests to their feet as they filled the Waldorf dancefloor.

Other special guests included music industry icon Clive Davis; television stars Maurice DuBois, Magee Hickey, Mr. G, Tamsen Fadal, Sharon Washington and Sesame Street cast members Emilio Delgado, Bob McGrath, Alan Muraoka, Roscoe & Kimberley Orman; dancers Madeline Wong and Abdur-Rahim Jackson; Miss Teen USA K. Lee Graham; and model Alexandria Morgan.

Project Sunshine extends heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the efforts of the event Co-Chairs, Vice Chairs, Honorary Committee and Benefit Committee.
